cikgu zain (my hml teacher) made up this thing. HE (only he) claims that 'ghoti' is pronounced as 'fish'. reason? ok, in rough, the gh is pronounced as 'ff' right, so he pronounce the 'gh' in ghoti that way oso. then in women, the 'o' pronounced as 'ee' right, so same to in ghoti. then, in 'nation', the ti is like 'shh' right, so it's the sami as in ghoti.. so ghoti is pronouced as fish TO mr zain. lol
